We’ve been working hard over the last couple of years to create a new Marketplace. It represents another step closer to the realisation of the vision for the Gungahlin Town Centre as a lively hub for retail, commercial and entertainment uses, with its unique 'urban village' feel.
Gungahlin is the 3rd fastest growing region in Australia and this development was in response to growing demands of the community.
The expansion has provided a greater range of retailers and services for Gungahlin, with more choices for families and more dining options throughout the day and evening.
The $60 million development has seen the expansion of
Marketplace Gungahlin over the car park adjoining Woolworths, and features a new two level, undercover car park for over 500 cars, plus an additional 6,900 sqm of retail space incorporating a 5,500 sqm new concept Kmart discount department store and 25 new specialty stores.
National brands such as Boost Juice, Priceline, Lowes, Ozmosis and Prouds Jewellers have joined the ranks of Marketplace Gungahlin, along with more specialty retailers. Our food and dining offering has expanded to include more restaurants, more cafes and take-away, more fresh food retailers, and specialist dessert and ice-creameries.
In September 2016, we were the first Canberrans to enjoy Woolworths’ ‘new look’ store format, when they unveiled their refurbished supermarket, which included a market style deli, butcher, seafood and bakery, as well as an in-store cafĂ©.
In November 2016, we completed the final stage of development, when Kmart and a host of other speciality stores opened. Kmart’s first day saw one of the biggest crowds ever for a new store opening!
This new centre is another step closer to realising our vision to be a lively hub for retail, commercial and entertainment uses. Whether it’s doing a weekly grocery shop, running errands, searching for a new outfit, meeting friends for coffee or feasting on delicious food, Marketplace Gungahlin is the place!
